Greetings from Sydney, New Foundland

Roisin Gallivan, the granddaughter of past member Ron Davies and Shirley, is a member of the Interact Club of the Sunnrise Rotary Club of Sidney, on New Foundland, Canada. Her interact club held a fund raiser to buy beautiful baby clothes, which were handed over to be used for new young needy mothers from the maternity wing at the Retreat Community Health Centre.

This happened at the opening of a braai area for employees at the Retreat Health centre on 2nd July 2013, in memory of Ron.

Roisin brought good wishes from her sponsor club and a club banner.

Developments at Lavender Hill Secondary School

One of the YES projects at Lavender Hill was the implementation of School Houses. These are invaluable in developing a sense of belonging, a sense of friendly rivalry, and a forum for leadership growth.

Over 8 weeks, a van der Bilt student – Ryan Selvaggio – helped develop and implement school houses amongst other projects. He worked extensively with the learners, staff, and other support organisations. Continue reading “Developments at Lavender Hill Secondary School”

Delivering Blankets to ECD Schools in Mfuleni

What an eye-opener today was. I have seen plenty in my time but I was not prepared for today. 60 – 80 children being cared for in a wendy house sized shack and no ablutions. And yet happy children being taught the right stuff. A good top structure guiding teachers, but nowhere to go. There is (more) work for us and I only saw the 4 that fall under the Mfuleni ECD Centre of about 40-odd ECD centres in Mfuleni. The blankets were donated by the Union of Jewish Women.
