Dear Promenaders
Welcome to the 26th “Last night of the Proms”, presented by the Rotary club of Wynberg. A musical highlight on the Cape Town calendar, ‘Proms’ again promises an evening of musical entertainment that all can enjoy.
This year Richard Cock has chosen a Gypsy theme and with extracts from that wonderful opera Carmen, that musical spirit that lies within us, will be awakened.
Richard, in his own inimitable and humorous way actively encourages audience participation and shares the background of the wonderful music and composers that he has chosen. This contributes to making the evening the great fun that it always is.
We are indebted to the choirs that so readily agree to join us each year. Thank you Symphony Choir of Cape Town, Cape Town Male Voice Choir, Cape Welsh Choir and UCT Choir.
The Cape Town Proms Orchestra has been with us for the past 3 years now and continues to add to the fun and play such beautiful music.
This year, for the first time, we have secured an International artist in the world renowned violinist, Jonathan Chan. His chosen piece is one of the most difficult, yet beautiful, to play as a violinist. We just know that this12 minute solo will bring the audience to their feet.
Our lovely young and upcoming soprano, Maudée Montierre will astound you with the quality of her voice.
A deep and sincere thank you goes to my hardworking committee of five, Barry Cleveland, Gordon Knight, Pam Munday and Mike Schreiber. The rest of the members of our club along with partners and spouses give of their time each year to help make your evening an enjoyable one.
This year all funds raised will go to St. Luke’s Hospice. They make such a positive difference to the quality of life for not only the terminally ill, but support for the bereaved families left behind as well. Your support of ‘Proms’ is support for them. Thank you
