Richard Cock is the director of Richard Cock Music Enterprises, an umbrella body covering a multitude of activities connected by music.
He is first and foremost a musician and conductor who conducts throughout South Africa, its adjacent territories and further afield. Many people feel he has done more than anyone in South Africa to popularize classical music and he is always looking for new and innovative ways to bring music to new audiences. He is also active in choral music – often in small towns, building up community activities through music, leading team building exercises for large corporates or conducting big choral works with full orchestra.
Over the past 22 years the name Richard Cock has become synonymous with Wynberg Rotary’s presentation of the “Last Night of the Proms” and his infectious enthusiasm adds enormously to the audiences’ enjoyment of Proms. Our theme for 2017, “The Great Entertainers”, certainly epitomises our maestro conductor.
Through the Apollo Music Trust, outreach work is taken to schools, prisons and disadvantaged communities, stimulating further activities in those communities. The Trust also supports talented South African musicians to help them reach their potential.
