Proms of the Past – Where are they now?

An interview with our 2009 Proms soloist, soprano Pretty Yende , which appeared in the “Big Issue” has prompted us to track the careers of a few more of the amazing young talents who have appeared on stage with us at the “Last Night of the Proms” over the past ten years.

This is what we found:

2007- Soprano Kimmie Skota – went on to sing with the Johann Strauss Orchestra and is best known for her performances with violinist Andre Rieu.

 

 

2008- Soprano Pretty Yende’s big break came in 2013 when she sang the role of Adele in Rossini’s Le Compte Ory at the Metropolitan Opera in New York at the age of only 27.
Her forthcoming role as Lucia in Donizetti’s “Lucia de Lammermoor at the Opera Nationale de Paris

 

2009- Soprano Shirley Sutherland-has toured S.A. with “My Fair Lady” & “Phantom of the Opera”. She has proven her versatility in the fields of Opera, Muiscals and Oratorio. With Cape Town Opera she toured Sweden and Germany in productions of Rusalka, and Showboat.

 

2009- Tenor Siyabonga Maqungo-has recently been performing at the Meininger Theater in Germany.

 

 

2010-Soprano Magda Minnaar – has performed with world renowned musicians such as Bony M, Arno Carstens, Zolani Mahola and international sensation Josh Groban on his visit to South Africa in 2016. She founded Biblioteek Productions.

 

 

2014 – Bass Baritone Thesele Kemane-graduated from, and was awarded a scholarship by, the Julliard School in New York’s Kovner Fellowship program. Joined the Opera Studio at Oper Frankfurt in 2016.
