18 July in South Africa and the world in known as Mandela Day in memory of our countries first democratically elected President and Apartheid struggle leader. This past Wednesday South Africa celebrated 100 years of Madiba’s Magic that continues to live on in his memory.
This past week our Club together with our partners in Interact and Rotaract handed out stationary to learners of Isiphiwo Primary School in Khayelitsha, Rotaract Wynberg spoiled the nurses of Victoria Hospital with chocolates and Steenberg Rotaract with our Interact Clubs cleaned Muizenberg and Sunrise Beach Cape Town.
Ian H.S. Riseley issued a challenge last year. He wanted Rotarians to plant 1.2 million trees – one for every Rotarian in the world – between 1 July 2017, when he took office as president of Rotary International, and Earth Day, 22 April 2018. Clubs around the world have embraced that challenge, and in his travels this year, Riseley himself has often been asked to pick up a shovel.

Zeekoevlei Sailing Centre where Wynberg has had over 15 years of involvement again demonstrates the impact this has on youths from our communities. Sailing has brought these youngsters out of gangs and on to the water where they are captains of their dreams. They become stronger mentally, physically and emotionally when they develop the sailing skills required to navigate wind, currents and fatigue.

Wynberg Rotary is proud of Ruth and Justin Schonegevel who has been chosen to chair Early Act and Interact in the District respectively the coming Rotary Year.
