On Sunday 6 October Wynberg Rotary handed over a brand new response car to Community Medics as part of a Global Grant project between Wynberg and 7 Rotary Clubs in the USA. The response vehicle is part of a R520 000 Global Grant project including training and equipment.

Community Medics is a volunteer, non-government emergency response organisation that responds to medical calls to help supplement the over stretched ambulance services. Community Medics has been partnering with Rotary over the past 3 years as a medical service to the Last Night of the Proms.
In 2018 the Club decided that the 2018/2019 Last Night of the Proms concerts proceeds will be used to sponsor a response vehicle. These funds through the Rotary Foundation Global Grant program together with contributions from several Rotary Clubs in the USA District 5170 including; Fremont, Fremont Morning, Niles, Newark, Fremont, Union City, Mission San Jose as well as Rotary District 9350 Steenberg and Wynberg Rotaract Clubs helped establish a project worth over R500 000.
This funding allows our Club to donate a fully kitted Response vehicle VW Polo, Medical First Aid Training and uniforms for volunteers. The added vehicle will increase the volumes of calls Community Medics can respond too improving health services for the less privileged in Cape Town.
The Club also thanks Past President and club member Elizabeth Danckwerts for her energy in seeing through with the project as well as her committee Mike Schreiber and David Barnard who made sure everything was correct.
