Biffy Danckwerts and Rob Murphy hand a wheelchair to Ann Amm of Diep River
A Wheelchair for Michael
Michael Katsuwa resides at 714 Mlonji Street in Philippi. He was involved in a car accident which resulted in his current paraplegia. His old wheelchair was uncomfortable which made it difficult for him to go about his daily activities.
Michael is a business-oriented individual and is engaged in a number of activities in which he tries to enhance his business knowledge and general empowerment.
The wheelchair will aid his mobility and enable him to attend to his business needs. It will help him develop as an individual, be empowered and most importantly help him become more independent and self-reliant.
Mandela Day – #67minutes – Grassy Park SPCA
On 18 July the Club went to the Grassy Park SPCA for Mandela Day.
We spent our 67 minutes fixing doors, painting, taking dogs for walks and playing with the cats in the cattery.
Wynberg Rotary Club donated cat and dog food as well as newspaper, old leads and bowls. Those who were not able to make it donated money and food.
We all thank our newest member, Ruth – who has a great fondness for animals –Β for arranging this project Continue reading “Mandela Day – #67minutes – Grassy Park SPCA”
Kids Day Out 2015
Every year our club takes a group of learners on a ‘Kids Day Out’. It has generally been a fun filled day at the beach, but as of this year we decided that there should be an educational aspect, so we chose theΒ Two Oceans Aquarium in the Waterfront.
On Saturday, 31 January we took 37 Grade 3 learners from Perivale Primary and their teachers to the Aquarium. It was an hectic, but exciting day.
The children thoroughly enjoyed learning about the sea life especially the touch pool. The aquarium followed by lunch and Spur. We ended the day with a visit to the scratch patch and gave each child a bag to fill with gem stones to take home, as a token to help them remember the day by.
Our club aims to do more projects like this throughout 2015.
Progress at Isiphiwo Primary School
The final stages of the building of a computer lab for Isiphiwo Primary School required some hands-on work by members of RC Wynberg. Accordingly a group left for the school on Saturday 17th January 2015 to erect shelves, move old computers out and new in. By the looks of it a lot of fun was interspersed with some very serious work.
Our thanks once again to our American donors for the money for this centre. The benefit to the school and the community will be immense!
