The Rotary Club of Wynberg’s new board was elected this past week for the 2018 – 2019 Rotary year. The club wishes to congratulate the following members who take office 1 July 2018. President 2018/19 Elizabeth Danckwerts, President Elect (19/20) Keela van Niekerk, Secretary Monique Bayes and Treasurer and Immediate Past President Rob Murphy.

Norway schools raise valuable funds to support local schools on the Cape Flats

Every year learners from two schools – Haugaland Vidergående Skole in Haugesund and Oddemarka Junior School in Kristiansand ,Norway raise funds by working one day of the year and donating these funds to a project called Action South Africa.

The funds raised are managed by a committee of Wynberg Rotary led by PP Are Hovstad for the benefit of 5 primary schools and 2 secondary schools in the Grassy Park, Lotus River and Zeekoevlei communities. In this year alone the Norwegian Committee gave out bursaries to the value of R940 000!

During the past week 4 Learners and 2 teachers of Haugaland Videregående Skole from Haugesund in Norway visited Cape Town as part of project Action South Africa.

Ground UP Barista Academy Grant

Rotary Invests more than half a million rand into skills and sustainable entrepreneurial development.

On Thursday 28 September, the Rotary Club of Wynberg presented a cheque to Learn to Earn’s Ground UP Barista Academy for R585 000. The funding was realised through partnerships with the Rotary Foundation, the Rotary Club of Tavistock Devon UK, Rotary District 1175 of the UK, the Rotary District 9350 (South Africa) and the Rotary Club of Wynberg.

Rotary Family Health Days – 2017

Hundreds of Vrygrond residents got a free health screening last week when they took part in the Rotary Family Health Days.

The health days were part of the organisation’s fifth annual health project in South Africa and formed part of a national campaign which took place in 120 areas. The health days were held over three days from Wednesday October 3 until Friday October 5 at the Sozo Foundation in Vrygrond and volunteers from Kromboom, Constantia and Wynberg Rotary clubs assisted.
