Rotaract and Rotary Celebrating 100 years of Madiba Magic
18 July in South Africa and the world in known as Mandela Day in memory of our countries first democratically elected President and Apartheid struggle leader. This past Wednesday South Africa celebrated 100 years of Madiba’s Magic that continues to live on in his memory.
This past week our Club together with our partners in Interact and Rotaract handed out stationary to learners of Isiphiwo Primary School in Khayelitsha, Rotaract Wynberg spoiled the nurses of Victoria Hospital with chocolates and Steenberg Rotaract with our Interact Clubs cleaned Muizenberg and Sunrise Beach Cape Town.
In celebration of Nelson Mandela, Lina, Brian, Hugh, Biffy, Derek, Jackie, Simisha and Imran braved the cold and damp and headed for Mdzananda Animal Clinic in Khayelitsha. They rolled up the sleeves and proceeded to build 2 kennels out of old packaging crates.
Mdzananda seeks to enhance the well being for the animals and their community through veterinary health care, education and partnerships.
The clinic serves up 1000 animals per month through consultations, surgery, hospitalization and mobile clinics for sick and injured animals.
The clinic has a strong focus on education and community empowerment, and understanding the community’s needs.
The kennels will be available to the community at a low cost.

On 18 July the Club went to the Grassy Park SPCA for Mandela Day.
We spent our 67 minutes fixing doors, painting, taking dogs for walks and playing with the cats in the cattery.
Wynberg Rotary Club donated cat and dog food as well as newspaper, old leads and bowls. Those who were not able to make it donated money and food.
We all thank our newest member, Ruth – who has a great fondness for animals – for arranging this project Continue reading “Mandela Day – #67minutes – Grassy Park SPCA”
