The Literacy Committee has been hard at work deciding on new approaches to make a practical difference to our learners. We are involved in various ways, developing libraries, donating books, and with mentors such as Wordworks and Literacy for All.
Following on international trends we have decided to implement ‘Reading Corners’ wherever possible in our Primary Schools. These corners are like mini-libraries situated in the class. They contain only age-appropriate books and are designed to be areas where the child can relax and read during a break or a quiet time.
On Saturday 14th Feb we donated our first reading corners to the 3 Grade 1 classes in Perivale Primary. Very bright and cheerful, they help to liven up the rooms. Once we hear from the teachers how successful these are, we will expand into G2 and G3, and then into other schools.
